Friday
Hey Meme,
For the first time since Houston, I have a real best friend who comes over often. Her children are friends with Lily. We cook together and play cards every week. They came for a bonfire last night, and we swam at Oak Mountain the day before.
Her birthday is soon, so I took the girls shopping for presents for her. The items they chose were so cute and thoughtful— we searched high & low for a back scratcher and dancing shoes.
She’s a good mama, and she deserves it.
She wants to find romance, and she’s hopeful.
I can't relate. Someone trying to convince me it's safe to love them feels like someone trying to convince me to jump off a bridge.
I have lept enough times to know the water is always too shallow. The parachute always has a hole in it. The bungee chord is tied to nothing. No one will catch you at the bottom, but you will survive the impact. Why? Maybe because God is cruel and sadistic, which explains how so many horrible people were made in his image.
Oh by the way, I met Pop's not-a-girlfriend by accidentally popping up at the wrong moment. She seemed kind…and mostly very flustered.
Maybe her base jump will go better than all mine.
Avery's birthday is tomorrow. I hope no one stands him up at his birthday dinner like he did to Lily.
