Hand-me-downs
Hey Meme,
Part 1: Work stuff
You were confident that Adam was the best thing to ever happen to me, so I’m sad to say that I have finally ended my time at his company. Joining his team connected me to some of the most meaningful people in my life, which is serendipitous at the least.
I hate when people crap on the idea that “everything happens for a reason,” as if appreciating something in hindsight is less meaningful. Let people appreciate the beauty of life when they can! It is not always easy.
I entertained the idea of working for a few different people, one in particular that I liked a lot. The offer itself was amazing, but I turned it down. I realized I truly want to build my own company. If I fail, there will always be other peoples’ companies to work for. Jerry and I shall meet with a CPA to discuss small business loan options for me. This will inform all the decisions that follow.
Lily and I have always joked that I will own “Goose Pallet”. Wish I could mull that over with you.
Part 2: Personal Stuff
In sadder news, Pop didn’t make it to the beach because his sister has come down with cancer. I prefer to word it that way, because “coming down” implies the sickness will go away. I hope it will. I have gone through about 1/8th the tragedy that Pop has, and I’m 8/8ths crazier than he is. He’s a maverick in the art of positivity. I’m proud that he’s giving life hell, but I wish he could catch a break.
We all enjoyed the beach trip. I got a fancy house with a private pool. I was surprised how naturally it came to be the matriarch—the person to wake up first, Tote 15 sunscreens, buy even more water shoes (what the hell happens to them all?), groceries and cooking, Jenga the dishes, clear the fridge, check under beds for left-behinds, then set the thermostat on the way out the door. I tried to help because I saw how much you did for everyone else. I’m still learning how much it was.
You taught me to love from sunrise to sunset, and I hope Lily feels as loved as I do.
